ScienceCafès

Our work is to touch journalists’ lives in a special way.
We currently engage scientists, advocates and journalists through a monthly forum called Media Science Cafes where technical and complicated health issues are broken down into everyday language for better understanding of health issues. These cafes are held on a rotational basis in Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia, and Homa Bay.
By working closely with science journalists both upcoming and experienced, we wish to entrench science journalism in Kenya and in Africa.

The cafes have proven our wish at MESHA in conjunction with our partners such as avac (avac.org) that journalists are kept up-to-date on the HIV response in Kenya on a regular basis. We think it’s a great time to have this ongoing conversation among journalists, researchers, implementers, policy makers and civil society with so much exciting research happening around in the country.
We look forward to partnering with others to ensure that cafes, which are very interactive sessions, are taken up by others who work in the space of agriculture, health, and environment.  Please contact our Secretariat on how to partner on science cafes at mediacafes@meshascience.org. You can also request for the reports of previous cafes.
