Climate change is no longer about rising temperatures, droughts and floods only. It is increasingly a health crisis.
Changes in temperature and rainfall are reshaping disease patterns, threatening food and water security, worsening air pollution and putting growing pressure on health systems. Repeated climate shocks are also taking a toll on mental health.
This special edition of Sayansi Magazine, a MESHA publication, explores the often-overlooked nexus between climate change and health, bringing these connections closer to communities and everyday experiences.
The publication showcases stories produced by journalism students from Maseno University and Masinde Muliro University, following their participation in a MESHA–IDRC media science café held on August 6, 2026. It offers an important reminder that climate change is not only an environmental issue, it is increasingly a health crisis affecting communities across Africa.
